Saorview Boxes and RF Outlets

    Hi all,

First time poster in this section and I just have a question on the RF outlets on Saorview boxes. Apologies if this is in anyway unclear. I will try to explain it as best I can.

I would like to know if it is possible to convert a TV that does not have a Scart input to digital TV. Such TVs are older than pre-historic this day in age I know.

Would anybody be able to tell me if there is a Saorview box whose RF outlet outputs the same as the Scart output would (much like the RF2 outlet on a Sky digibox)? I am aware that there are Scart to RF modulators but before resorting to use of those, I would like to know if there is a box that can be connected directly to the TV's Antenna input?

Many thanks in advance for the assistance. If any of that is unclear, I will try to clarify.

    Thanks again.
    Joe

Another option could be to connect scart of Saorview to scart in of an old VCR if you have one. RF out on VCR to TV once correct channel is selected on VCR.

I don't think there are any Saorview approved STBs with an RF modulator out directly to the TV's co-ax socket.

Yes you would have to buy an RF modulaor. No approved boxes seem to have one built in. Some non approved boxes may have them but then may lack some features.

If you TV is so old it does not have a scart, nor a yellow input plug on the front or no type of connector except the aerial connector then it might be better long term value to buy a new TV unless you want a vintage TV for some special reason. A modulator and a Saorview box would start to be getting towards the price of a new TV. Even the power consumption of an old TV, if it used as a main TV, can add up to hundreds over the years.

I am seeing a lot of ads on adverts.ie and similar for old CRT TVs for free. The vast majority would have a scart, probably two. How about getting hold of one? The recycling centres are filling up with TVs that work perfectly, but are being thrown away to make room for a Saorview TV.

I can confirm that the one Aldi had a while back does NOT have RF out :(

    also
the SKY box I tried has scart pass through , but doesn't modulate it for the RF out 'cos that would have been too easy :(

instead of a VCR you could look at a video sender - if you want a second telly to see the box (obviously will only work for scart tv's) - Haven't seen a video sender with an RF out though.

We ended up picking up a modulator and it works very well.

The television is belonging to an elderly family friend who does not want to get rid of it - set in her ways.

Anyways, it's all sorted now. Thanks for the suggestions/info guys.

    - Haven't seen a video sender with an RF out though.

I actually have a video sender which also has a modulated RF-out on the receiver unit. Its a (I assume from Aldi) Tevion MD81241 2.4GHz Wireless Video/Audio Sender - and the modulator has correct sound system (I) for UK/Ireland, bought around 2006.

The one I have outputs on UHF Ch48, though the English instructions here say its on UHF Ch36 (maybe some are):
