Sorry for jumping in on this but Shannonside CC in Athlone have a Falling Leaves tour this Sunday too... Just in case Baltinglass doesn't suit anyone... And it's for a good cause too.

    Hi all,
Interested in trying the 70km on Sunday, I've only been cycling a couple of months, longest spin being 50km,300m climbing and 27km average. Feel comfortable doing 40km, 270m climbing at 29km average any evening. Question is would I be able make it round this course? I would love to get a sportive under my belt so I know I have it in me and on the winter evenings I can have an idea of what I'm aiming for next year if that makes sense? Just don't want to bite off more than I can chew too early!
Any advice or help would be great.
    Thanks in advance!
    Skit

Meant to mention, I doubt I have more than 1000km covered in total at this stage but loving the hurt! :)

Giving the Baltinglass cycle serious consideration. Weather forecast for Saturday quite good.

I would say that you would easily be able for a 70km if you can do a 50km. The adrenilene will kick in and you will love it and get a great sense of achievement as you pass the 55 then 60 etc. I went from a 50 to 85 with no problems and then up to 100km so doubt you will have any issues. GO FOR IT !!!

Just to note, the cycle is on Saturday not Sunday.

Sat, the original Tour of the Falling Leaves sportive out of Baltinglass is great for regular cyclists and people whom are new and want to try their hand at an event. The food stop is at Aughrim and the pace to it is generally easy and all the group stays together. After the food stop there is a good climb and people are free to climb it at what pace they want.

Sign up on the day and its for a good worthy cause

Lovely day out and weather perfect, but a degree or two warmer would have been a great bonus. Good run down to foods stop at Aughrim with a 28.7 km avg. Dropped a little on the way back with a some headwind and all the climbing of the day still to be done. Fantastic views of the Wicklow hills as you cycle up to Aughavannagh and on to Rathdangan. Finished up with a bit of grub, a nice certificate and a 25.2 km avg in Baltinglass hospital. Thanks to the organisers.

    Yip. I agree.

Great day out. This was my first sportive. I did the first leg to Aughrim in 1:15 and the second leg back to Baltinglass in 1:30.

Very well organised; good atmosphere and fantastic scenery. Damn good sangwiches too. The climb out of Aughrim was kinda long but I just got into a slow steady pace and had a bit left in the tank as I got to the top.

    Think I might be hooked...
