    Bikes needed in Botswana:

Wexford wheelers are supporting an initiative to collect older working bikes for export to south Africa.

A former Wexford Wheeler John Bennett, son of the late Liam Bennett. John now lives in Gaborone in Botswana, Africa, and has become involved with his local cycling club Tsela Riders. Their Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/pages/Tsela-Riders-Cycling-Club/135739093235836

The Tsela Riders asked him to look for support for development riders (teenage years and early twenties) to help them into the sport. Batswana at that age very rarely have the means to enter the sport as average wages are very small and the only way is for the club to assist them.

The Tsela Riders are currently supporting them with bikes, equipment, spares, trips to races, etc, but they are a small club and are struggling to manage any more.

There are many opportunities for quite magnificent cycling trips in Botswana and in South Africa if anyone wants to visit.

Tsela club would be delighted to host a visit from Wheelers members. There is the Tour of Botswana, a 1000 km cycling tour, scheduled for next May as well as other 30,000 plus riders events.

But the locals need bikes.......... Would you have a spare bike, perhaps an older model that you are not using, that is working and in good condition that you would consider donating to help young cyclists in Botswana?

If so, can you email Ian Doyle idoyle1973@gmail.com. This is to enable us to gauge the likely level of support and then to work out the feasibility of shipping. Wheels and cycling gear, in good condition, also wanted.

    Assistance would be appreciated.
