2006 VW Passat 1.9 TDI Sport - intermitant power loss

    Hi All

I hope someone can help as I am at my wits end with my 2006 VW Passat 1.9 TDI Sport. For about a year now I have been experiencing power loss when accellorating. Some days it runs perfect and other days not. Never any problem with ignition or start up. When the problem does arise it is always from from start up and driving off, it does not happen mid-drive. The rev counter is normal when driving with or without the problem. When I re-start the engine it drives perfect again. The engine light has also come on on occasion. I have been to 4 garages (wasting so much money) including VW garage and they have apparantly checked everything. Air flow meter has also been changed. They say the only option now is trial and error by replacing parts one by one, which I can't afford to do, or even replacing the turbo, which may not be faulty at all!

Any suggestions what the problem could be?

Different car but same issues. I have a 2002 A4 1.9TDI. A few years ago it was having intermittent problems taking off. One thing that was consistent was that it struggled to get going once you stopped after a long spin.

Had the throttle body cleaned and a new EGR valve which fixed the problem for two weeks. Eventually my mechanic disconnected the EGR valve and its been fine since, put about 75,000 on it and it went through two NCTs
