    http://www.injuriesboard.ie/eng/News_Press_Releases/Press_Releases/INJURIESBOARD_IE_INTERIM_REPORT_2012.html

The latest spin from the insurance industry's pawn.

I would love to know where they get their statistics from considering the RSA and HSA haven't published accident statistics for 2011 yet.

It's also interesting to read that they reference to the Thalidomide and DePuy issues. These issues concern the provision of medical services and product liability which are outside the scope of the PIAB Act. They have no business even considering these issues. I know practitioners submit applications purely as a precaution but they are kicked out immediately by PIAB.

I suppose the only good thing is that they will damage their statistics in that they cannot hold onto them and assess.

I think they're using their own Statistics :-)

They mention the DePuy and Thalidomide cases and the fact that they have released them to the courts because liability is being contested. What's the problem?

No the Thalidomide and DePuy cases are not considered by PIAB, they don't even write to the Respondent's, they release them with regard to S3 (d) of the 2003 Act (provision of medical services) What the Injuries Board say in that press release concerning liability in these specific issues is rubbish.

I take the point with the statistics.

I also think its very disingenuous and insulting to injured people to refer to "recession, aggressive promotion and 'ambulance chasing' likely causes" of the spike in claims.

For a statutory and supposedly independent body I think they should keep such assumptions and guesswork to themselves.

If injuriesboard.ie is primarily funded by the insurance sector how can they be truly independent? Like you say it's disingenuous of them to make blanket statement about "anecdoctal" reasons for a rise in PI cases. They make reference to the point that there isn't a comparative rise in the number of RTA's but have they analysed whether there's been an increase in the actual severity of RTA's which may account for the rise in the number of claims?

    Anecdotal evidence = cherry-picking = unreliable.
