Hey I am doing my LC this year and I am pretty certain I want to go into the biology field and this seems to be the best course for the points I was able to find. I am thinking of putting it as my 1st choice for the CAO and was wondering if anyone had heard anything about it or is even in/took the course. Anything would be great :)

I did a couple of their modules and was good friends with them. Its a great course and nearly all of them are employed or doing post grads

Friends with the Biotech modules? But...how? :P

Biotechnology is a really good course to do, a lot of money to be made in the Biopharma industry and if it's something you have an interest in then I'd say go for it.

Tons of FDI going into biotech or it, so if you want a job then go for one of those:P

I think the course also has a work placement in third year, so you could get the foot in the door:)

Thanks for the responses guys :) it does have a work placement at some stage which is a great part about the course, just a case of getting enough points now lol

I did the Biotech course at NUIM, finished 5 years ago, the course covered a large range of subjects (immunology, tumour biology, biotech processing, bioethics, molecular biology and plant biology) and exposes the student to lots of practical techniques.

One of the things I felt was difficult about the course was the fact that chemistry was required to be studied for 3 years, I found this difficult as I did not study chemistry at LC level, bare this in mind.

The work placement is great and there are many diverse companies involved.

Overall its a great course, working from a month after I completed my final exams and have since completed a masters which was made a little easier as I studied a wide range of subjects studied in Biotech at degree level.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks :) , I was worried about how diverse the course might be in terms of subjects but that sounds great especially since I want to do a masters course later on. The chemistry side of it is a little worrying since I am not doing it for the LC either, guess it would be something I would just have to knuckle down on to catch up with.

The chemistry side of it wasn't overly difficult, just that I found it difficult.

Good tip is to get the LC chemistry book if you do go on to do Biotech, and use it along with the first year notes which should bring you up to speed pretty quickly.

Anyways if you do go to Maynooth enjoy it, its a great place to go to college!
