Tapping / vibrating sound from immersion heater

Hi. I changed my immersion heater a few weeks ago as the old one was tripping the RCD. All fine now except that the new one is making a gentle tapping noise whenever it's applying heat - ie not while it's idling. It's a bit like the sound you get when you twang a plastic ruler at the edge of a table. It's coming from either the element itself or the thermostat, not the surrounding pipework. I don't remember the element being too close or touching the coil when I fitted it, but maybe they have come into contact once it was tightened. Or maybe the thermostat is rattling in its tube.

Wondering has anyone seen this? I'll try pulling out the thermostat to see if it's rattling, but hoping to avoid draining the cylinder again if I can.

    Thanks.
