Amazing job by this crew to get the aircraft down, but sad to read about the fate of the heli crew

They were lucky, but from a control point of view the damage wouldn't have been too bad. Chances are the pilots wouldn't have known what happened until they landed.

A 727 or TU-154 wouldn't have made it on the same impact and there would be quite a few of them about in the area.

wow, its scarey to think just how close they were to all dying.

Bull****. Here are a few issues that immediately crop up:
    - probable loss of hydraulic fluids through broken pipes, probably leaving them with only 1 system left. Hence a dual hydraulic failure, multiple ECAMs and procedures, continued flight in Alternate Law (i.e. manual flight and thrust and no protections).
    - No yaw damper and half a rudder leading to possible Dutch Roll
    - Change of weight and balance
    - difficulties landing in a cross wind
    - vibration from the disturbed airflow at the damaged area
    etc etc

    They would have noticed alright...

Are these not the guys shooting at unarmed citizens of their own country on the orders of a mad dictator. They can rot in hell as far as I am concerned. Glad that it turned out well for the Airbus guys and gals though.
