RTE in England?

I have a brother-in-law in southern England wondering how he can view RTE over there. He was kind of hoping he could use an old Sky box and dish setup in a similar way that I do here to watch the FTA UK channels. But I think, isn't RTE encrypted on the Sky satellite, so is only viewable to someone with an active Irish sky subscription?

Is there any other way to get RTE? Can a Saorsat setup work in England? He's handy with DIY, so would be well able to set up additional LNB, Saorsat box, and has equipment to lock on to the signal etc.

You've answered your own question there.

Could try get a Sky subscription using an irish address and activate it over here, it should work

But since that's against Sky's terms and conditions, we won't talk about it here...

as far as i know, the saorsat doesn't cover uk. not that it's not meant to, but the signal doesn't reflect over uk.

If he is living west of plymouth he could get Saorsat. The signal is not encrypted but no coverage reported east of plymouth. There is no monthly charge for this.

I think Saorsat is receivable in the southwest of England. See this post: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=80610475&postcount=2513

OK thanks. So it looks like it's not likely to work where he is (about on the crossroads just west of Reading on the map in that thread).

He might be able to pick up the edge of the France footprint, but it seems that's jammed?

He wont get RTE on the French footprint
