I noticed a neat little trick on SKY. You can go to the options menu and "tune in" stations. I typed in random frequencies and got a few weird and wonderfu random channels.

Does anyone have the frequencies for RTL (The German station ??)

MOD FEEL FREE TO SNIP THE ABOVE REQUEST IF IT'S AGAINST BOARDS, CHEERS

The parameters varied when surfing for a frequency are as follows: (not as easy as searching for a radio station :P) What do all of the parameters mean ??

Frequency (GHz) this is between 10.5 and 12.5
Polarisation can be V or H
Symbo Rate (Mbaud) can be 22.0 or 27.5
    FEC can be 1/2 2/3 3/4 5/6 7/8

    See here.

You can't tune RTL as it's not transmitted on the Astra 2 satellite cluster, only Astra 1. So you'd need to move the dish.

Frequency is literally the frequency of the wave the multiplex is transmitted on. Measured in gigahertz on satellite.

Polarisation specifies whether the wave is transmitted on a vertical plane or horizontal plane. Same as if you turn a TV aerial with the directors vertically or horizontally.

Symbol Rate is (roughly) the capacity of the multiplex. The higher the SR, the more channels you can fit (or the better the picture quality of the channels on there). On non-Sky receivers this can be almost any value up to 30000 but Sky receivers are restricted to 22000 and 27500. This makes Sky receivers virtually useless on satellites other than the Astra 2 and Eurobird 28 series.

FEC is Forward Error Correction. This specifies the amount of data which is assigned to error correction of a bad signal, expressed as a fraction. 2/3 means that two thirds of the bandwidth is available for channels, while the other one third is for error correction. At 7/8, you have the most bandwidth available but you need a very good signal to avoid picture breakup.
