I got a Stanley Oisin (no back boiler) in 2008 for €399. It heats our kitchen which is 6.5m x 3.5m. It takes about an hour for the heat to be noticeable but after that it is more than capable of making you sweat.

I got the stove at the same time I was getting my kitchen extended and had forgotten to cost the flue (silly me) which added another €750!

I had to get two cast iron flue sections that rise into a false chimney breast then it was a twin walled flue from there to the top with a rain cap and associated flashing.

No. It was through a 12.5 degree tiled roof.

I was just onto Waterford Stanley today and asked about this stove. Their RRP is €499 matt and €899 enamel. I was shocked at the difference in price. The difference in the bigger stoves is only about 200. The oisin is 6.4kW output.

lennyloulou if you know of anyone going to the plouging match this week, stanley are selling a €100 voucher for €50 which can be used for the oisin, and if you buy it next week you get an extra €50 discount - so youl have €100 off...

I knew someone at the ploughing today and I asked them to get me a voucher, but they found out the €100 voucher which you buy for €50 has to be used on a Matt stove, or there is a €400 voucher that costs €200 and has to be used on an enamel stove. They have to be used by the end of this year.
We didn't buy the vouchers because we haven't fully decided yet and won't be ready to buy until early next year. If you know what your going for then they are worth it.

How do I estimate the cost of my flue?

I am thinking about installing an Oisin to replace the current 30 year old gas boiler. The boiler currently sits behind an equally old gas convection fire which is situated at the foot of our chimney. This would be the intended site of our Oisin. Would it be too dangerous to keep the gas boiler for the rare occasions we want to heat upstairs radiators?

By what your saying you have a gas back boiler more than likely a Baxi the whole lot would have to be removed if you wanted to fit a stove in the fireplace opening which would leave you with no central heating.Look for an other location for the stove on an end wall is the house terraced, semi detached or even detached then you can go outside with the flue but using twin wall flue can be expensive somewhere from 750-1200 for it depending on location

Yeah I had a feeling the whole lot would need to come out. We have a 2-up/2-down terraced house so there's no other spot for a stove I'm afraid. Looks like I'll have to forget the idea.
Just seems a pity to have to put on the central heating when we only really need the sitting room radiator on. And it kills me to think the back boiler is only about 50% efficient but I can't justify getting a new one when we only want one rad hot.
    Thanks anyway.
