You can do it part time with the internet based course.. I did the same myself get on to your local teagasc. It costs 3000 . 2500 for course fees and 500 for course material. They upped it one of the last budgets and not one bit of noise made by the ifa.

I checked it out in 2009 and got a letter back saying the green cert course was around 3000 euro IIRC.

So I didn't bother doing it but will eventually.

If I could do the part-time course on the internet I would be interested but know fcuk all about it. The part-time course is for 3 years I think.

2 years and 20 days on days away (i think but pretty sure). i was supposed to do it last year but rang 3 days after course date was released and was told it was full. seems there are a lot trying to into it.
it doesnt have a great rep for being much more than a way to avoid inheritance tax.

But sure the last budget changed the stamp on ag land from 6% to 2%. Half this for father to son/daughter transfers is only 1% on stamp duty if it is signed over before death. Don't know what happens if it is inherited after death or what the story with CGT is though.

I am 35 and in the process of getting the land transferred to my name. Is there any benefit in doing the green cert, i know there was something about stamp duty but you had to be under 35. I suppose what i am asking is, is there any knowledge or skills to be gained by doing the course, was thinking of the online version

The stamp duty exemption has been extended to the end of 2015 as per the last budget.
We offer the green cert in Westport college of further education. There is minimal cost. It is €50 to apply and €50 for printing etc. The government levy and Fetac fees are 250 but if you have a medical card you are exempt. The course starts in September and runs until May.
