I've rung around a few tyre places and got quotes as follows for 225/50/R17:

    Accelera - €100
    Nankang - €105
    Federal - €115
    Kumho - €140
    Dunlop - €165
    Hankook - €165
    Bridgestone - €185

Any opinions on these? (Eagerly awaits first 'ditchfinder' comment !)

Also, I need 3 tyres so how much could I reasonably haggle for?

What Bridgestone is that price for?

And stay away from Federal. Had them. Absolutely shocking grip in the damp, never mind the wet. Would spin up coming out of a roundabout, and that wouldn't be driving hard.

225/50/R17 - as stated in thread title and body of thread. Or do you mean something else? Summer tyres - yes.

    For a Peugeot 3008

That's the size, not the model.

There must be dozens of choices.

Katunga - Vredestein are great tyres, but hard to get in Ireland. Had a set on my car they lasted 20k miles or so

jprboy - Micks garage give 5 euro off each tyre with FastFit, so if they are offering a good price that might save you a few quid!

    Ok, gotcha, thanks.

What I was really asking was is there any particular brand I should avoid or one that anyone would recommend first?

Then I can consider the various models.

    Thanks
