Good places to eat at TCD after the Buttery and H. Cafe have closed?

Title says it all really. Anyone know any decent places to eat if you're staying in late? Preferably open around 5-7 o'clock?

Or good cheap places for lunch? I've ended up hungry today and yesterday, as I can't afford to eat properly

With regard to cheap places for lunch it is possible to eat quite cheaply in the Buttery. The salad is pay as you weigh so u pick light things and no more than u will defnitly actually eat and u should be able to get a salad for about 2 euro. Then grab yourself a roll or one of the biggest fruit scones and you have lunch for 3 euro maximum. The salad often has stuff like boiled eggs or tuna which will keep u going for a while. You may still get hungry later especially if you're in for a long day but you won't starve. Being a poor student frequently means getting used to small portions and surviving on less food!
They also really don't seem to care if you bring your own food or eat a combination of your own food and theirs. Just try not to ever buy a bar of chocolate or a bag of crisps on campus as v expensive -much better to bulk buy these things in a supermarket and keep in your locker or at home.

Great! Didn't know about the buttery salads. Now I can be somewhat healthy (I had 3 pizza slices today :P)

The Runner Bean, past the Kilkenny shop on Nassau St., is hard to beat in terms of price, quantity and quality. Much better than anything in the surrounding area. Sandwiches typically come in at around €4.50, less even for students, and they have great ingredients like dijon chicken, brie cheese and delicious sundried tomatoes among other things. You won't get that in Subway or Spar. The owner has a horrible manner though so you should be prepared.

Also, if you want to eat well and eat enough, make your own lunch and bring it in. Ultimately it's much better than buying in town.

Ask your mother how to make sandwiches.

+1, but if you're running late/lazy, the Tesco €3 deal is alright. (Sandwich/Salad/Pasta) + (BagOFruit/KitKat) + (BottleOWater/OrangeJuice/MangoJuice/CarrotJuice) for 3 quid's not bad. Just don't buy the couscous or the weightwatcher sammiches and you'll be alright.

Also in the mix is the Dunnes €3 deal, but it's limited to (Sandwich) + (PacketOCrisps) + (FruitDrink/Coke). Not as healthy. Also Dunnes is a bit more of a walk.

Also, it won't be open late, but I'd recommend taking a trip to O'Donavans across the road from the JCR at least once. The Tijuana Chicken Panini is ridiculously popular. It seems to account for at least 50% of what's ordered in there. €3.60 though :/.

The noodle bar just off Dawson Street. Everything €5, pretty decent size too.
    Or the €3 Tesco deal.

The Pav does cheap curries and chips and stuff, not the healthiest though.

To be honest, there's no good place to eat in TCD even when they are open!

It's very easy to get into the habit of bringing in your own lunches! And it is by far the healthiest and cheapest, and possibly even tastiest option. I know it's not what you asked for, but give it some thought.

Exactly - A can of tuna, some cheese and a bit of fruit will cost what? €2.50? :)

Where do you guys eat your packed lunch I'm wondering? Doesn't the buttery have signs up that says you can eat food bought off the premises? I'd definitely bring my lunch if there was somewhere to sit and eat. Also, does anybody know if there's anywhere you can heat up food on campus?

Yeah a microwave would be perfect. Could make chile/pasta type stuff on sunday for a week and lob it in the freezer

It's hard to beat the benches by the cricket pitch on a nice day. Also, I have often brought food from Subway or other places to the Buttery without incident (although I did hide the packaging). If you don't want the risk, the Atrium next door is openly advertised as a place to eat food bought off campus.

As an undergrad I used to get food in Subway and eat in the Hamilton/EE. Other good choices are Yum Thai or the burrito places around college

I am constantly seeing people with those little cardboard boxes you get from Asian takeout places. Is everyone going to the same restaurant?

As far as I am aware people mainly get them from the Noodle bar near Dawson street that languagenerd mentioned. Plus you get a free apple.

    Thanks Equium :)
The benches beside the cricket pitch has to be about the nicest place on campus I think.

For the microwaves, ask some post docs in your department. There's usually a place in each faculty building where you can microwave things. Not so applicable for undergrads, but still possible if you get to know the right people. Ten there are the socs. Many have facilities such as you mention.
