I read in my travel guide that there are discounts for students/traveling.
But they mention so many I'm lost. I'm 21, a student from Holland.

I land in Dublin on the 17th in the morning, so I need to take the bus to my Temple bar hotel. Next morning day I will take the 07:35 intercity to Belfast.
At 3ish i will travel by bus to Galway, and it goes via Canvan.
2 days later, in the afternoon, I will take the intercity 17:30 to Killarney.
And the next morning the I take a different intercity from Killarney to Cork.
The 22th I will travel by intercity from Cork to Dublin.

I read something about a Faircard, Exlorer ticket(http://www.railusers.ie/passenger_info/ticketing.php#id) and getting a student travel card (is this the card which I use to ID myself with at my own Dutch uni?)

Im scared that if I buy any ticket right now, I wont be able to use it because there are so many bus and train companies! Who knows what to get in this situation?

    errrrrr
you are going from Dublin to Belfast to Galway (on bus via Cavan) on the same day?
    Why?

You do know theres busses and trains that go directly from Dublin to Galway?

my suggestion would be to make life a little more simple as you REALLY dont want to make that journey from Belfast to Galway through the middle of the country. Its too much pain for not much gain.

Did you know that the bus from Dublin to Belfast actually stops at the AIRPORT so rather than travel 30min to Dublin city centre after arriving, you could instead head 2 hours north to Belfast and enjoy the late afternoon/ evening and maybe overnight there.
Even if you want to overnight in Dublin you could catch a late express bus or train back after exploring belfast.

You would then have a full day the next day in Dublin to explore/ tour and take in the city.
To get to Galway then is easy from Dublin by train or express bus in 2 1/2 or 3 hours.

Ticketwise, if you book online and in advance you can get great deals on intercity busses and trains. The deals change so often its hard to keep track but normally the train is marginally more than the bus if booked in advance and often an internet discount fare is cheaper than a student fare
