How do I register as being employed with a new company?

Do I have to go into the tax office personally or can I just ring a phone number? I want to do this as soon as possible to avoid paying emergency tax.

    Thanks

You don't register anywhere. To avoid paying emergency tax your new employer need tax credits for you so they can deduct appropriate amount of tax instead of emergency tax. If you have worked previously in 2012 you should give your p45 to new employer. If not you should ring revenue and give them company registration number and they will issue updated tax credit cert to you and employer.

Go to www.revenue.ie click on the 'Contact Locator' button and input your PPS number. The number you need to call will come up. You will need your PPS no, your new employer's PAYE Reg no and the date you started your new job so a tax credit cert can be issued to your new employer. If you have a 2012 P45 give this info to revenue also.

If you don't have p45 from previous employment or you haven't worked before you need to fill in From A12 http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/forms/form12a.pdf , you can download it and fill it in yourself, get employers details and get it off to tax office asap.
