everyone's welcome, it's not members only (location of sign up etc on the main website) and yes, it's very, very mini!

    Hi HelenAnne,

Do you have any details on the meeting point, registration & route for the race please?

I am not a member but would like to sign-up for the event. I don't see any details other than the overview in the OP and the e-mail/contact function does not appear to work on the site (error message).

    Thanks

I'm not sure of the exact starting point on Watermill Road but they should be able to tell you upon registration in the clubhouse which is close by. The clubhouse is on the Howth Road near the junction with Station Road in Raheny. Its across the road from the large modern church. Its hidden from the street - just pop around the side of the Scout Hall and you will find it. Its approximately where the A is on this map:

    https://maps.google.ie/maps?q=+o+doherty+house+howth+road+&hl=en&ll=53.38018,-6.175883&spn=0.006809,0.013797&sll=53.377239,-6.171148&sspn=0.00681,0.013797&gl=ie&hnear=O%27Doherty+House,+Howth+Rd,+Dublin+5,+County+Dublin&t=m&z=16

There's parking nearby in the Supervalu car park, or at the group of shops opposite Supervalu, or on Watermill Road. Raheny Dart station is only around 3 minutes walk away. The village is also served by the 29A, 31, 31A, 32, 32A and 32B busses.

And most importantly of all entry is a ridiculously cheap €5!!!

As Eoinin says, the clubhouse is a bit hard to find. The entrance to the scout den is directly opposite the big modern church (Our Lady Mother of Divine Grace, Raheny). So, go in as if you're going to the scout den, then walk past the front door of the den, turn right along the side of the den building and you'll see Raheny Shamrock, with a shamrock over the door! I'd say you could register from 6.30-7.15 ish.

(I'm just basing this on sign-up time before other Raheny races, I'm not one of the organisers or anything!)

Best of luck in it, everyone! And as far as I know there'll be tea and biscuits in the clubhouse after, and a prizegiving.

Are you sure it is open to everyone? Its just that is says on the website notice "All Raheny Shamrocks members are welcome"

I think that's just to encourage people from Raheny to enter. I know people from AXA insurance who aren't members will be running. I've never run a Raheny club race that was members-only, so I don't think this one is. If in doubt, ask here

    http://www.facebook.com/rahenyshamrock

but I know anyone can register & run.

Yip, I ran this. I have my race report here.

Really enjoyed it and there was only the one small hill near the finish.
What happened to the 4miler though? Ended up being just a 6km according to my Garmin (6.05km)

    How did you get on?
Any sign of results going up soon do you know??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭HelenAnne

Well done! You may have been running close to my husband (orange t-shirt & socks, he did 25 something?)

I did 27.10, I think. Happy enough. One of my usual nemeses (he's not really a nemesis, just we're always racing each other as we have similar paces) was ahead of me the whole way, and I just couldn't close the gap and he finished about 20 secs ahead, so i wish I'd had a bit more in me to close that gap a bit. I'd like to have broken 27, but I'm blaming my 18-9 mile on sunday for my tired-ish legs.

I don't have a Garmin or anyhting, but people had been saying to me before the race that it's not 4 miles, I think people told me it was 3.8? Anyway, it was a nice little route and I enjoyed the tea and biscuits after.

    Well done again.

Oh, results normally go up here

    Haha!
My 'nemesis' was just a friendly term for closest competitor on the night and I'd never raced him before but as it turns out it was your husband!!:pac:
He was keeping me going for the first 4.5km and I just got passed him on the Coast rd. He came in around 10 secs after me and before my mate Kieran.
He mentioned to me after the finish that he was using me a a target over the finishing straight but i felt guilty as I'd got more use out of him than vice versa!!

Well done yourself HelenAnne! Yip, a great race in perfect conditions. Only a pity more didn't turn up to such a great value race!

I gave that race a go last night also, finished in 25:32, which would havebeen a great 4 mile time for me, but 3.75mile, not so much...

Had a good tussle with 2 younger guys around the course, each of use passed each other several times? Finally got the beating of them on watermill road(hill) with 100 m to go…

One of those guys was my mate Kieran. He mentioned he was overtaken on the run in to the line and that ye were passing each other several times.
Did you happen to notice him tieing his laces twice?? ...Nah, didn't think so!!;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭MisterDrak

I did, first the right shoe on All saints road, then the left on sybil hill road, then he took a wrong turn on to Month Prospect road, with out those delays he would have beaten me easy...

Really enjoyed the race and a great night for it!

Thanks to the members for the warm welcome - my first time at a RS race.

I was well happy with my time so I'll assume it was as full 4M! :-)
    K

Edit: Good tussle over the last 200m with my name-sake - cheers bud - really helped to achieve my PB! :-)

If any of you did around 27 minutes and have glasses and a dark t-shirt, then I think you were on my tail more or less coming up watermill. There was a man of that description vying with my friend keith (flourescent yellow long-sleeve top) and the two of you came in just behind me. Glad everyone enjoyed it.
Belcarra, my husband is on boards too, I must direct him to this thread so you can congratulate each other!

Hi HelenAnne - yep, that description fits me!

We were indeed going neck-and-neck over the last bit. I could see you up ahead on the Howth Rd as you were turning for Watermill...but alas it was a stretch (and a hill) too far for me! :)

I think I was talking to your husband before the race, as well as few others after. I couldn't make the tea afterwards but the camaraderie was great - thanks!

Really enjoyed it - well done to all!

I had to laugh when I read your report Belcarra - sometimes towards the end of a race I pass the odd person who is "obviously just holding on", so its funny to be described as that myself :) But you hit the nail on the head there - I think my pace was too fast for most of the race and I was just doing my best to get home for the last mile or so. I thought you were politely sitting behind me on the coast road, I tried to move aside on the path to let you past a couple of times but you were obviously saving some energy for later! Nice to meet you afterwards.

Q and A it was nice to meet you too - we chatting before and after the race. Come along to some of the winter league races if you enjoyed last night.

The funniest moment of the race for me was when we were on the Howth Road approaching a bus stop. A guy at the bus stop suddenly stuck out his arm to hail an oncoming bus. The runner ahead of me had to quickly duck under his outstretched arm! What with busses, cars doing 3-point-turns and unpredictable pedestrians this race should advertise itself as an obstacle course next year!

I was battling your mate Kieran and the other lad in Orange most of the way round. They went away from me ~3miles and I finished about 20seconds behind them. I finished in 26:16

Did this last night but ended up going off course & running over 8k instead of the 6k. :( I was in 4th spot with a lad from Raheny (Sean Honan I think) but we were following Gerry Simpson in 2nd who decided to take a right somewhere on Mount Prospect Avenue. I can do 6k in under 23mins so when we hadn't reached the Clontarf Road after 20mins, I knew we had gone off course. Me & the Raheny lad ended up coming out on the Clontarf Road at Vernon Avenue way down the road. I wouldn't mind but the guy we followed has won that race a few times & should have known the course. Ah well, maybe next year. :)

Was very tempted alright as I live local ,but this close to Marathon decided to stick to plan and did easy 5 mile instead. Didn't want to risk injury. Seems from other posts that it went well though.

Oh no! Me & my friends were wondering why such fast-looking people were coming in after us; then we realised they'd got lost. I was a bit unsure of the route till we got to the Howth Road, but after that I knew it as we run that way all the time. Sorry you went off course.

Is that yourself Eonin?! It was a good aul battle alright. By the time I hit the Coast Rd I had decided to make a move soon but although I noticed you make room i thought the path was still a little narrow and that you might end up in the bushes if I did try and pass! I was a little surprised how strong i was towards the end though.

It was a bit mayhem-like up on All Saints Rd alright. Very dark and people appearing from the park and then that idiot doing some kind of L-Driver 3-pt turn in the middle of the race field!

Will you be doing the Winter League? I hope to give it a go again to keep a bit of speed in the legs through the off-season!
