Youcef Nadarkhani, the Christian pastor facing execution on charges of apostasy and evangelising Muslims in Iran, has recently been released after spending nearly three years in prison.

He was acquitted of apostasy but was found guilty of evangelizing Muslims. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment but was released because he already served this time.

There is no doubt that international pressure, including lobbying from people on this website and elsewhere, has contributed to his release.

However, there are still many people imprisoned in Islamic states on similar charges, often without proper due process in cases initiated to settle grudges, and we need to keep up the pressure internationally on their behalf.

Cheers for posting, Michael. This really is fantastic news.

Though sadly I would imagine that Mr Nadarkhani remains in some serious danger. Governmental authorities may have washed their hands of him but there are more than a few misguided and down right evil people in the world. Someone for Christians here to keep in their prayers.

    michael,

dunno if you heard Ahmadinejads speech at the u.n. today.

it might be worth going through , so groups like yourselves can quote his words when pressing Iranian authorities for such releases.

some interesting stuff ....i suggest that all interested groups challenge his government, to live up to its claims, wherever/whenever their interests meet with his assertions.

    And quote him on it.
