Dell Laptop - powering up intermittently

    Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron 610m laptop. I had been getting the error below for quite some time

    "Power Adapter not recognized".

"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge.

As I didn't need the laptop to be portable I just hit F1 and used the laptop whilst plugged in. However, recently the situation has worsened, I plug in the AC Power Adapter and a green light appears on the adapter itself
but the laptop does not power up.

I have managed to get it to power up maybe once in every tenth attempt. It primarily booted after I'd unplugged everything , removed the battery , removed and re-housed the fuse in the ac adapter plug ( thats what I superstitiously thought anyway). I eventually replaced the fuse in the plug as I thought that was the cause of the problem.
However its still the same 9 times out of 10 I will plug in the adapter and the laptop fails to power up.

I will buy a new adapter and see if that resolves the issue. Otherwise the laptop is well outside of warranty by now so I'd be looking to fix it myself if possible. If I need to open up the laptop what should I be looking for ?

    Thanks

well if dont charge of new adapter than it might be a problem with connector in laptop..
also try removing you battery and start laptop of power adapter to see will you get that error message..
and in the end i could assume that your bios battery might be running out so you would need to open laptop, check for battery and go and buy one...
its not expensive and it might do a job for you

I couldn't understand the first sentence above but anyway.
It sounds to me most likely the cable from the adapter to the laptop is frayed (probably internally so as you can't see it). The same as happens to headphone cables.
I suggest you buy a new and that should resolve the problem.

wouldn't bother with the bios battery , bring it to a pc repair shop they will have a spare charger try that , it that doesn't work its the ac port /system board.
