Would you have a private plate and if so how much would you spend?

I would gladly spend €500 to have a non year specific plate

    There's and Audi s4 in balls bridge that's 04-d-54

How much is it now to reserve a number? And does it have to be in the county you reside? For instance living in Dublin could I reserve 13-w-12 for and Audi A8L W12? :D

Obviously I'll be getting one next year after I win the lotto!

The government are really missing a trick by not implementing private plates - its essentially money for nothing. I've read quotes that said their computer systems would all need to be upgraded to cope with them, but surely thats not the case as their systems already have to handle the pretty random pre-87 standards.

Its done here in Australia - you customise your plate at myplates.com.au, and you have to collect from an RTA office. (no such thing as walking into halfords to get new reg plates done up - its $200 if you damage your normal plates and want them replaced!!)

Costs $400 max, but you pay an additional $90 per year on top of your rego (more or less road tax) to have them. Regardless of whether or not you'd want them on your car, there are plenty of people who would - and it would generate decent revenue.

FWIW - I have them on my M3 at home, back from when they were EUR300 or so. No way I'd go for them again at the current costs though.

It has to be the county you reside in, but there's nothing stopping you getting it registered to your country pile and then changing the registered address back to your main residence.

The best one I seen was a BMW Z3 that had the reg XX D 23007 and the 2 was made look like a Z because it was in the Bond film that year.

Could swear I've seen a db9 somewhere with xx-x-1007 but with the 007 spaced well past the 1!

Last time I checked years ago it was €400 to reserve a number? Being first come first serve on November first if I remember. Still the same story?

Wonder if the old Dublin Lord Mayors vel satis is floating around. It was 04-d-1

I was thinking more along the lines of older non year specific plates. I agree with K Devitt that the government is missing a trick with these. I would have them on both cars and i suspect many real petrolheads would too.

That black Vel Satis was for sale a few months ago, €2500 with no NCT iirc.

I've seen a couple of Volvo C70's with XX C 70 which is cool, as is XX CE 300 and XX CE 320 on a couple of W124's. XX D 89 on a DB9, has been featured on the HWIST thread a couple of times. Looks the bsuiness too.

Then there's this car, reg AI 1 , yours for a cool €10,000:

The plates are not really obvious here, I can see the value in the UK personal plates, but not in Ireland - how many people would actually see this as a valued plate it's just 5231.
