Multiswitch & Receiver LNB 'switching'

    Is the power requirement from the receiver reduced when a multiswitch is in use as opposed to a direct feed from a LNB?

    I am attempting to calculate the power requirements within a HTPC I intend to build, hence the question.

    Maybe a different way of asking would be helpful .....

    can the LNB power in the receiver be switched off when using a multiswitch?

    As I understand it the multiswitch powers the LNB so the power from the receiver would be unused?

    I have failed to find a clear statement about this on any of the sites I have visited.

    Thanks in advance for any clarification.

    You can't switch off the LNB power in the receiver/PCI card as you still need to generate a 13V or 18V signal to switch from vertical and horizontal polarisation.

    If you're concerned about power draw, have you considered a USB DVB-S2 device with external PSU?

    It is not so much a concern, as I can rate the PSU to suit; it is more knowing what the power requirements will be per receiver to operate correctly.

    Is there any info available about the current draw from the receiver when it is being fed from a multiswitch?

    I'd have thought it would be little different to the power draw from an LNB. The thing that usually fries PCI boards is when a Diseqc motor is attached.

    The spaun.de is pretty good on tech specs for multiswitches.

    Here you go - page 22, compact Multiswitch with active terrestrial:
    "Current consumption from receiver < 20mA"
