Need help from a TCD student

    Dear TCD students,

I am an Erasmus-student of architecture at the Dublin Institute of Technology. As I have a lot of spare time, I want to visit lectures at the TCD in Philosophy and History (I just want to be a guest, I do not want to do any examens, just sit in the back and listening). Unfortunately, these two departments do not tell me their timetables, as I am not a student of the TCD. So I ask you, if somebody can tell me the timetables, as they should be online in the student information system of the TCD?

    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Felix

You should check the extramural courses available to people outside the university, I think the history department offer some.

Technically as you are not a student of TCD then I don't think you should be attending lectures there; in practice you might be ok, especially in some of the bigger theatres.

Not sure you should be going to lectures and distracting Trinity students. If you don't belong somewhere you shouldn't really go there imo. Probably against the rules too actually.

Sitting quietly at the back is hardly going to distract anyone.

Not comfortable with the idea myself really. Not going to affect him if he gets bored and decides to mess, but it will ruin my grades if I miss something important when his phone goes off or he sniggers for example.

Why would you attend a lecture that you don't have to be at and not pay attention?

And if you think that a couple of seconds of distraction will "ruin your grades" then you have a lot to learn about college.

So what if it's like "and if you take one thing from this course it should be * phone goes off * so make sure you remember that..."

    That's my exams fucked

    To Everyone:
Thanks a lot for the help!

    To Enda Reardon:
In Germany it is usual that everyone can listen to lectures. All Universities publish their timetables. (by the way, there are no Education fees, as well) Education should be accessable for everyone!

Probably I'd be the one who pays more attention to the lecturer than some of the other students. Of course: If there is no spare seat in the theatre, I'd sit on the stairs.

Still looking for the history timetable!
    Thanks!

You'd be better off out, cause a hazard in the event of a fire if you were sitting in the stairs. Seriously, stay out is best.

Well yeah, you would be fucked if you couldn't do the sensible thing and just ask a classmate or the lecturer to repeat what they said.

Wouldn't be an issue if there hadn't been a disturbance to begin with...

    Don't mind enda.
You'd be best to contact the college and ask.
I'm sure there'd be no problem but for some courses the college might want to be notified that you want to sit in on a lecture (I once brought a friend who was interested in applying for my course into a lecture but had to contact the college first just in case).

Here's a list of the extramural classes offered by the college in History for people like yourselves-

Enda Reardon banned for being a re-reg of Bar Brawler, Buster Keaton, Count Wankula, Dark Dude, Dark Dude., Doc Jameson, Dr Bronson, Dripping Japper, iPhone Crusader, Lexplosii, M_Bovary, Pansing Denis, Samsung Galaxy s3 crusader, Stop Bustin My Chops and Whirling Dervish. Some people really do have too much time on their hands.

Thanks Anita! I asked the department of history, and they did not answered for a week, maybe I ll go there. The department of Philosophy denied my request.

Sometimes the college would genuinely have to deny a request. I know when I wanted to bring my friend, I had to get approval for insurance reasons.
Extramural courses would probably be your best bet!

Best way to do it is to go directly to the notice boards in the Arts Building and look for the printed timetables. From my experience of history lectures, especially for junior and senior freshmen, nobody will notice if you attend or not.

I brought people to Spanish lectures, which have a high level of interaction between students and professors, and no one batted an eye lid either.
