Jim McGuinness - a petty, vindictive individual

What happened at the press conference where McGuinness refused to answer questions until Declan Bogue was removed from the room is an embarrassment not just to himself, but to the rest of the journalists present and to the GAA Press Office.

If, say, Alex Ferguson did this the pathetic nature of the act would be rightly called out.

Declan Bogue did not write anyting that was untrue. The function of journalists is no to soft soap somebody and massage their ego.

The rest of the journalists should have walked out.

It was an act of ignorance and child-like petulance of the highest order.

What exactly did Bogue do/say that p1ssed him off so much?

Personally, I think he was dead right.

Fergie has numerous journalists banned for attacking his son Darren, so i dont have a issue with it if Jim felt that strongly.

Id be shocked if Fergie went a month without f**king a journo out of a press conference. He blanked the BBC for years despite repeated fines.

Its a sign of a strong manager who isnt worried about pandering to the media

McGuinness claims that what Bogue wrote wasnt true and wasnt researched properly. If that is the case that he was completely correct in banning him from the press conference

Having a certain journalist in a room is not pandering to the media. Jim is a big boy. Being an inter-county manager carries certain duties. He has a job to do. They have a job to do. Bogue wrote a book, which unless somebody can produce evidence to the contrary, contains reference to factual events.

If you believe McGuinness was right, by extension that implies that you think Bogue should be banished from every press conference given by any Ulster manager, because he interviewed a player from each county who talked about championship preparations.

Perhaps Jim's act shows that he now himself believes he was wrong to banish Kevin Cassidy. Because he certainly can't bring hmself to answer any questions on it.

You don't know Alex Ferguson do you?
Ferguson bans two journalists just a few weeks ago
Ferguson bans a journalist in 2011
Journalist still banned by Ferguson since 2007
I'm sure there are countless more. Managers should be able to talk to who they like.

I do think the media in all sports have far too much self importance these days.In numerous articles you hear them criticizing players for being media shy and they heap praise on the fellas who are open with the media as it is some kind of virtue that a player talks to the media. If someone doesn't want to talk to the media or a certain member of the media then they shouldn't have to particularly in the GAA's case when it isn't the players and managers profession so they don't really have to talk to the media if they don't want to.

Any further threads like this will result in a ban for the individual that starts them.

I'll just dish out a warning here, as I'm in a good mood.

Well done to Donegal on their well deserved win.

Also well done to Jim McGuinness, and may his unwell father get well soon.
