Civil Service Maternity Pay

    Hi,

I am an established civil servant and currently work full time, but was in the process of changing to job sharing 3 days a week. I am now pregnant and am wondering about maternity pay. Will my maternity pay be 3 days pay? or will I still receive the full pay?
I know the proper thing to do would be to ask my finance section, but I am early pregnant, and know people in the finance section here so don't want to approach them with this question.
I want to know fairly soon as I have enough annual leave to carry me up to the new year if it is worth my while staying full time.

Could you enquire from your local union branch rep ?

I can't, my local union branch rep is in my section, and I can't let him know my situation yet, as I said early days.

Maternity Leave is paid pro rata to your working pattern. If you can, you should stay full-time for as long as possible.

3 days if you go on maternity leave once the job share has commenced.
If I were you, I'd forego the jobshare or postpone it.

You should however see an slight increase in your pay packet due to the way your maternity pay is financed (partly through social welfare).

I know of a lot of people who find themselves financially as well off once they d switched to 28 - 32 hours job share as opposed to full time hours, but seeing as your going on Maternity leave anyway presumably sometime in April May, I d wait until returning or preparing to return and request jobshare then.
