Emails from employers that acknowledge job applications

    When someone gets an email to the tune of 'Dear x thank your for application we will be reviewing all applications and will contact you shortly to inform you whether or not you have been successful in securing a position in our company' how should they proceed?
    Is it advisable to reply to these HR emails ?
    One side of me thinks it would show greater interest in the position but I'm not sure if it looks amateurish.

    When I was in a position that I was interviewing people for places in my company, I used to make a point of compiling a spreadsheet with Yes, No, Maybe on it.

    As CVs came in, I'd enter their details & do up three form emails at the end of each day, "Have it on file... Not what we're looking for etc." & send them out.

    If anyone from the No or maybe replied, I'd escalate them up the list, if anyone from the yes replied, I'd get them in as early as possible.

    But that could have just been me.

    Do you mean a post application or post interview e-mail? Surely it would be annoying for HR to get responses to those post application auto e-mails. They have your application, and probably hundreds more, and now they have to read through further e-mails?

    If it's just an automated reply, I definitely wouldn't reply to it. I mean, you're not going to be saying anything new, you're only going to be reiterating your interest in the role - but you'll have made this clear, already, in your application.

    If, however, you get an e-mail a few days later to this effect, it's less likely that it's automated. And it's not exactly a positive sign if they're contacting you at this stage, but without an interview offer. In this case, might be no harm replying ... I guess you don't really have anything to lose, and a convincing reply might push them to bring you in for interview, after all.
