I want a sound card since the mobo sound is awful. Silly me I sold my previous sound card think that the mobo would do the same job, man I was wrong :pac:

Now Im in market for a sound card but first thing first, can I fit a sound card in the PCIE or PCI slow?

Idk can I fit in the PCIE with the cooler there, not sure

The pci slot is easier to get to but id be worried about the gpu fans and over heating etc
my gpu is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX670 OC

    here are some pics

that would be a very tight fit and might compromise cooling. PCI should be perfectly fine if you have a slot lower down.

Of course, you could always sell your 2 cards and replace them with a stronger, single card solution.

I first posted about moving the graphics card in the case but this would be much better of course!

You can move the sound card to another slot in the case.

Also I don't know what length they come in or where to buy it. I hope you can find one that does the job.

that has me thinking. iv a spare slot on the back of my computer that the montherboard doesnt reach

On that diagram above of the motherboard where PCIE4 is. Is there anything that like above that I can plug into PCIE4 and into the sound card and then put the sound card in the empty space of the back of the computer where the motherboard doesnt reach

(sorry if that doesnt make sense) tired

A bit expensive so maybe try to find it somewhere else, but it is one option.

If you have the clearance to plug this into PCIE4 then plug into a sound card and place it into the slot, it would also need clearance when putting it into the slot as it could be restricted by the side of the case.
Unfortunately I have no way of telling if it will fix.

It'll fit in the first PCI-x1 slot. You're good to go. Won't compromise cooling much, if at all, either.

don't think it will. the macho is a bit of a dog.

Do ye think I could get a sound card in that bottom slot (last picture)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Yeah, but the Macho doesn't actually cover any of the slot, therefore it will fit. Cards are designed to not go beyond the plastic edge of the slot connector, and you actually end up with a little more space on that side, because you only have the PCB and solder points to make room for.

It will be very close, but from the look of it, nothing will actually touch, etc. and ventilation shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks to great boards.ie user, deejer. I was able to see could I fit a sound card above the psu and it works no bother. My only concern now is the extension cable . The concern is that there's high grove on the case where the extension cables PCIE connection will be and will that effect how high the sound card will be and resulting it not fitting into the back of the pc case slot

is it possible to mod a sound card that the connection is facing up rather that down into the mobo? Like turning around the connection on the sound card which goes into the case upside down?
