Went to Dealz like 3 times the past week in the Square. Simply amazing. Got 8 cans of Coca Cola for 3 euro the other day.

Almost everything is 1.49. 4 cans of Coke, Dr.Pepper, 7up, etc, = 1.49. Same with bars, crisps, what have you. Well worth checking it out if you live near the area.

You can buy crates of the stuff in Dunnes that works out at 33 cents per can.

You wil get it even cheaper in some of the cash and carry shops that now sell to the public.

Dealz is owned by Poundland which was the subject of a C4 programme few weeks back. Look closely and everything is a smaller size and you can get most things cheaper elsewhere but because they push the value line so much, people think they are getting a great deal. Another example is walkers crisps, 5 pack! or KitKat is not an 8 pack but rather 5+3free even though the 8 pack is same price elsewhere.....
Most manufacturers make special sizes for poundland.

I think what was actually said about Kit Kat was, it was changed from a 6+3 free to a 6+2 free but Poundland went with 5+3 free so they could claim the percentage free was greater. This is not new or unusual in retailing, it's a factual statement. Often you will see stuff advertised in Tesco, Dunnes etc. as, say, "2 for €5 and then find the single unit on sale for €2.25 or a 1kg pack on sale for more than the price of 2x500g, they all do it, maybe Poundland do it better. All in all there are still some good deals in Dealz, like in all retailing it's just a case of not being swayed by the hype.

The Poundland (Dealz in Ireland) investigation by Dispatches was really excellent. Well worth watching. With Poundland it is the volume of the product that you have to watch vis a vis the price for the standard size product in your Tesco, Dunnes etc.

You can get good bargains, but just be aware of what other shops are charging for stuff.

A lot of the baby stuff is good value - Apron style plastic & cotton bibs for feeding - €1.49, usually a good bit more in Penneys, Dunnes etc. Also feeding cups, freezer containers, bowls etc. all €1.49. Milk is good value too, think a 2 litre is less than €1.49. Got 2 packs of cadburys chocolate chip cookies for €1.49 (good expiry too).

True but it was the fact that tescos etc had 8 as opposed to 5+3 free for same price and also the fact that poundland buyer stated in an undercover section that having free parts was a good way to get into poundland.

I thought the jaffa cakes part was rotten, PL had 100% extra free whilst tesco had simply the same size pack with no extra free for same price!

This is a bargain alert thread not a bleeding business investigation thread.

    Take it somewhere else lads.

Its not just Dealz and Poundland, the old Euro Shop also has a lot of stuff you can get cheaper in a supermarket. For example, most of the baby care products (ie. petroleum jelly, baby oil and nappy cream, wipes) you can get cheaper from Tesco's own brand or in Lidl.

I understand your frustration but it also alerts to a bargain alert not being a bargain.........

It's common practice on Bargain Alerts for people to debate if something is or is not a bargain. If you're prepared to take everything at face value that's up to you.

It's quite big I guess. They converted the bottom Easons into Dealz.

It's fairly crap when compared to the one in Portlaoise or Athlone to be honest. They have about half of the selection of the 2 I mentioned despite being the same size if not bigger. Some bargains to be had even still tho. Of course just shop about and avoid the rip offs, stick to the actual bargains and it can be worthwhile shopping there.

I always buy a bottle of rescue oil (similiar to Bio Oil) and cocoa oil (similiar to the Palmers Brand) every time I visit a dealz (you can also buy these in the "1 euro 50 shop" if you have one nearby)

    Excellent value at 1.50 each

I even use the cocoa one as an eyemakeup remover.

Just to point to one non-saving with Dealz as per the Dispatches programme. Fairy 450ml washing up liquid €1.49 in Dealz whereas Supervalu have an offer of €2 for a 870ml bottle.
