Can someone please clarify how old a car has to be to qualify for classic insurance and tax. I always assumed it was 30 years but do some qualify after 20 years?

some cars can be classed as " modern classics " but for the most part its 30 years.

For the cheap tax (52E per year), there's a rolling 30 year exemption.

So, next year 1983 cars qualify.

All cars pre 1980 are NCT exempt.

As for the insurance issue, I'm not too sure on that to give a definate answer.

That information is true , some insurance companies allow cheaper insurance for over 20 years old.. eg FBD and possibly AXA. Most require that you have another car fully insured.:p
