Have you an I or smart phone??
Go to Ebay and look for a GSM/GPRS vechicle tracker. They cost all of 30 euros and come with a nice little waterproof pouch, made in China as usual. But they are brilliant. They are about the size of matchbox, and will transmit on a recharged battery for appx 72 hours.
Go to the Iphone apps store and download a programme called GPS tracker costs about a fiver.

Charge it up,put a credited up SIM card in it.Download the better English instructions from the website ,and play around with it for a few hours setting up things you want or dont want[Geo fencing is a handy hunting feature].Pop it in the water proof bag hang it on your dawgs collar and off you go.
Where is Rover? Send the unit a SMS message. It replies with co ordinates, that transfer straight onto a Google map programme on your phone.:D.Or you can set it up that it sends you a message via sMS every 30,60 or 90 secs.Or every minute,5 mins or whatever you want.
No phone coverage? The GPS/GSM takes over and sends the co ordinates.
I have used these on a "professional";) level and I have to say I am well impressed with them.

At 40 quid what have you to lose but to try it?If it was a POS I wouldnt recommend it.:)
