Ok, I'll try and describe what I'm looking for and hopefully someone can help me...!

In my current house we've a PS3 hooked up to a tv, which would be our main thing to use for streaming from our laptops.

Basically I'm looking for some kind of always on media centre/storage solution which has bit torrent abilities, storage of 2TB+ (upgradable is a bonus) and can stream to the ps3 as well as any of the laptops in the house being able to drag and drop files from it...

    What would ye recommend?

    Thanks!
    Martin

A NAS (Network Attached Storage) box ...... a lot of them have bitorrent built in and should do all you need.

There are a number of threads in Bargain Alerts about good deals on such devices.

I would recommend Synology. On my second one now (2x2TB setup as Raid 1). I have the same setup your thinking of and works well. Only thing to remember is the PS3 is wireless G. I had to use a Powerline adapter to get consistant speed and no frame freeze, depending on the size of the file your watching.

Torrents, pfft, Usenet is where it's at, no uploading, completely private and full speed all the time.
You then have many things you can run to automate the whole thing, Sabnzbd, Sickbeard, Couchpotato and Headphones. You can run these on any platform, just build/buy a pc to run them on and use it as a NAS as well by adding more drives. I'm buying this HP as it's low power.

See my guide here on getting started with Usenet

I got one of these recently:

Happy with it so far. Bit torrent built in is handy. Combined with RSS feeds gets very handy. Got good reviews on here too
