Hi lads, just said i'd do a quick review of the primos power crow call, i bought one off ebay and tried it for the first time this morning, i've never used a caller of any sort before so i'm a total novice and i have to say this bit of kit is unreal, i was calling in crows from all angles, and any i seen crossing nearby fields i could get them to turn and come straight to me, i had about 6 full bodied decoys and 3 shells out with my pigeon layout as well, for 3 hours this morning over barley stubble i had 26 crows/rooks and 3 grey crows, i also had 8 wood pigeon, ran out of cartridges then!!! here's a pic of the bag with a few missing that i lost in some standing barley. if you want to do a bit of crow shooting i would really recommend this, i couldn't believe how well it worked.

how much did it cost, how loud is, it how easy is it to use, do you have to use your throat or voice box when blowing it or just blow into it like a whistle , were you calling when the greys came in

it cost about €18 euro i think delivered.
yes it's very loud, i could hear it echoe down through the fields so it travels fairly far.
very easy to use, as i say i've never used a caller before and this was my first time to use one.
i was using a bit of a rasp in my throat to blow it, but when they cam closer just blew it softly like a whistle.it does sound a bit high pitched but they really come into it.
i was trying 3 different calls, a two short with two long caws, 3 long caws, then one real long caw which is what the greys seemed to like.

right lads just said i'd do an update to see if i was just lucky first time i used the caller but was out yesterday morning again, bad conditions for decoying really bright sun and zero wind but i still had a decent bag, early on there was a huge flock of crows a couple of fields away (that i had no permissions on) with the crows there i was not too effective with the caller cause every crow in the place was naturally attracted to huge flock, luckily enough the flock dispersed around 9.30 am, then i had a lot more success with the birds coming to the caller then zoning in on my decoys. so have to say this caller is deadly. ended up with 7 pigeon, 3 greys and 13 crows. am missing 3 from photo, 2 dropped into the ditch and one of the greys flew a couple hundred yards before he droped so he stayed where he was!

It is illegal. And also the season for wood pigeon starts the 1st november. And also rooks are protected.

    Just sayin like

it was for crop and animal protection and i don't see the words "crow decoy" in any of my post!

Rooks are protected but can be shot under derogation for causing damage to livestock feedlots and crops. There are specific dates for each.

As a point of interest using decoys for rooks is not allowed, same with using a caller under section 35 of the Wildlife Act 1976 as amended.
