Yes, there's some sort of locked car-park facility that you need a student card to access. Don't know how secure it is in reality though. You'll still need a decent U-lock.

Will get a lock or maybe locks tommorow. Thanks again for reply

Kryptonite U-Locks are probably the most highly regarded (especially the orange and yellow ones, the grey ones are more middle of the road, but cheaper).
Make sure you don't get a cable lock, unless it's a secondary lock for securing the front wheel.

I have heard kryptonite locks mentioned before. Think I will need two locks as wheels are quick release. I have seen bikes locked before with front wheel removed and locked with back wheel. Is that attracting more attention to bike

Get a good quality u lock to lock the main bike and use a cable to lock the front wheel to the bike or ulock .
And do some reaserch on how to use a ulock correctly , most irish people cant .

Some of those kryptonite locks come with a cable extension for locking the front wheel. I wouldn't say removing the front wheel is add an undue amount of attention to the bike but it does mean more work.

Kryptonite it is so. Yeah have seen a clip on utube in which this guy is showing how badly people are securing their bikes and the locks that are been used is laughable. Bikes would be more secure with elastic band.

A terrible thing to say but the most important rule is to make your bike more secure than the nearest couple of bicycles, the scum that nick bikes generally go for the quickest steal.

The grey kryptonites are decent enough, and usually come with a cable as well. Not as good as the Yellows or Orange but still decent. Most important advice for a U lock is to leave as little space inside the U as possible to stop bottle jacks. I usually try and catch the rear wheel and frame to take up space and then a secondary lock for the front wheel and try and loop that through the frame as well.

If you can't get into the secure area (only secure as long as students aren't nicking bikes), try and leave it in view of the security hut if you can find anywhere near by.

    Enjoy college.

Save yourself the pain & get a POS runaround bike for going into Bolton St.

As a former student I can tell you that even if they don't manage to knick the whole bike; they'll have everything else off it, saddle, calipers, mechs, etc, & leave you with your frame & lock.

I've even seen hubs removed thru the simple expedient of cutting all the spokes !!!

The secure bike store in the staff carpark is not accessed using your student card. you need to bring your student card to a room on the 2nd floor and they will give you a fob to open the gate to the secure bike store (also you have to give a €10 deposit for the fob), cant remember the room number, the porters at the entrance will give you the exact room number. I use this store and it is quite secure though you still need to lock your bicycle inside

If you live near a Dublin Bikes Station you could use that:

    Click here for stations: http://www.dublinbikes.ie/All-Stations/Station-map

It's €10 for the year! Used it yesterday for the first time and I was impressed
