To avoid confusion I do not mean savantism as in autism (which was once politically incorrectly and incorrectly known as idiot savant. )

By savantism I mean more unusual mental feats.

Can hypnosis be used to give people extraordinary mental abilities - I don't mean telepathy, or anything like that. More, making someone remember all the French they learned at school. Or just getting them to do something, they can already do, but with extraordinary focus.

Or is all that just stage hypnosis fakery?

No hypnosis cannot give people extraordinary mental abilities, the only way to be extraordinary is to do ordinary things over and over and over again. If you want to speak French and be excellent it it,then it takes work, a lot of work. Malcom Gladwell states in his book Outliers that it takes 10,000 hours of practise to be a master of a skill, say for example - chess, tennis or for piano.

Hypnosis can help access a resource state alright but the resource needs to be deeply ingrained in the mind through repeated focused practise.
