Travelling solo later this year - suggestions for a trip

    Hi,

I'm male in my mid 30's and have a few weeks holiday entitlement to use up before the end of the year. For this trip, I'll be going alone. Not really sure what I want, but I was thinking of something in Europe rather than farther away.

As a single traveller what can I do? I'm interested in both active things (such as cycling, hiking, etc) but am at a lost as for what to do solo.

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I really don't know what my options are apart from city sight seeing!

A lot of it will depend when you want to go as well as where. If its hiking, cycling and outdoor stuff that are a priority i guess the weather has to be taken into consideration. From the end of the month the ideal weather in most of northern Europe wont maybe suit unless you are hardcore. So maybe a cheap flight down to the south of france. Could cycle along the cote d'azure maybe into italy. Take the bike on the train if needs be for a differnt perspective any time you like. Lovely part of the world and weather should be decent up to November.

It's not essential to be an active break. A city break to any of the European cities would be good as well.

If you plan on doing a bit of travel, look into traveling by rail at night; you goto sleep in say France, and wake up in Spain. You also save the money you'd spend in a hotel. Best of all; you don't waste time traveling. Most railways you have to book in advance, though, if going at night.

the overnight rail trips can be expensive unless you are happy to kip for those hours on a standard train seat. I looked into the last couple of years and its something I defo wanna do but get a cabin or maybe that isnt the right term but I think it could be a fun way to get around, not cheap all the same.

Just head to and travel around the ex Yugoslav countries inc Albania and Kosovo, they have everything in a reasonably small area and a decent enough transport system and are all pretty much dirt cheap!
