The new season has kicked off where Z list celebrities are assigned to manage local parish football teams from around the country. Quite enjoyed last weeks episode where Calum Best's mayo team beat Paddy Doherty's Clontarf. he may be a twit but he was cuter the way he approached the game, whereas Paddy hammered his lads into the ground with physical training like he was training them for a bare knuckle boxing match and they ended up getting a pasting. Up this evening at 6.30 are Mary Byrne's Tullow and Richie Haye's Tramore. C'mon Richie!

Show may be sh*ite or not, but the clubs have been giving it 100%, you can't take that from it.

The standard of 'celebrity' is prett abysmal alright. At least the likes of Calum Best and Mary Byrne are recognisable faces but there's a couple of them I never saw before or even heard of. That model Roz Purcell is hot though so we'll let her away with it.

It was embarrasing last year when Paul Gogarty (former TD) walked into the dressingroom and none of the players had a clue who he was. They just sat there quietly, thinking he must be a member of the tv crew tv like a sound tech or something.

TBH - I haven't a clue who any of these "celebrities" are either. Its an interesting question to ask, but is it any use to the clubs that are taking part in the competition.

I think the year that Kilconly (from Galway - afaik, breffni from The Apprentice was over them) were in it, they went on to win the Intermediate county title, and go up senior for the first time. But is it of much use to the majority of clubs that take part in it, or is it just a bit of extra training and a few days out.

Tramore got beaten out the door in the East Waterford Inter semi yesterday so didn't do them much good.

As far as I know, most clubs generate a few bob from it & it motivates lads to turn up training for a while too.

No harm in it & if you don't want to watch it, Don't. simple.

In fairness it's a bit of harmless fun really, no more nor less. It generates a bit of a buzz in the area, the club make a few bob and the extra training won't do their fitness levels any harm. The players involved do seem to take it seriously though and sure why not? If you're going to enter it at all you might as well try and win it.

One of my favorite moments from the show- john kenny's ''motivational'' speech
