Snapped Front Wheel Quick Release

I feel like a bit of an idiot!

Took off front wheel to bring bike in boot, then when putting the front wheel back on, found quick release very stiff to put back on so I assisted it with my foot (!!) and it snapped. Pics below:

I have next to no knowledge of bike repair at all. Is this difficult/expensive to fix? Will I need a new wheel?

    Thanks!

You should never have the quick release so tight that you need to close it with your foot. A QR will not be designed to be that tight and that's what will have broken it.

Neither a difficult or expensive fix, €10 will sort it.

You are also missing a spoke. :p

You should get that repaired before you hit a bump and bend the rim.

    Thanks Lashed and RTDH.

So the fork of the bike is ok? I only need to take the wheel to the bike shop, not the whole bike, right?

Knew about the spoke, but didn't think one was a big deal (this is a very old bike I use for just getting to the shops etc!). Might get it repaired while I'm at it.

Yeah, you should definitely get the spoke replaced. It won't cost much and it won't take long but if you leave it like that it's only a matter of time before the rest of the spokes start breaking (because there's an un-even amount of pressure on them now) and eventually you could end up with a significantly un-round wheel.

The quick release skewer can be bought separately and just slide into place, nothing to worry about, just don't tighten them so much in future.

.....and get it clean and shiny! It's filthy. :)

Buy a new skewer for a fiver in a LBS and get them to fit a new spoke for ya while you're there.

Thanks a million for the answers! Glad to hear I didn't break the entire wheel! Will get the spoke repaired asap then, it's been out for ages but I didn't pay much heed!

Are QR skewers universal in size or does it depend on the type of wheel?

They come in two sizes, front wheel and back wheel.
    :)

Haha, even I shouldn't confuse them in that case. Thanks :)
