Restoring a knackered gear lever...

I have this gear lever for a Series 3 Fiat 131 Supermirafiori that requires restoration (trying to find a new one is impossible).

It's horrible cheap plastic moulded to the shape shown and slipped on over the metal shaft. It's covered in gunk which I will clean off but it has lots of damage to the plastic itself along with missing a circular implant at the top which needs filling. The finished article does not need to retain this as a separate piece.

I'm wondering about ideas and so far all I've come up with is a sort of heat based shrink wrap in leather or similar material. I don't mind a seam along the shaft where the pieces must join but the top (the part that fits in your palm) must be perfectly round and smooth (and not annoy me every time I change gear)!

I'd love to hear about suggestions and even better suppliers who could/would take on such a job. Cheers

Hey good spot - I had seen this but as you say it is the Diesel version which is a longer gear lever and designed to emerge through the central console at something like 45 degrees. The petrol Supermirafiori is a sportier (and shorter) version more akin to the Mirafiori Sport set up.

Thanks for the help though.

Some else suggested a trimmer in Kilkenny so I will follow that up I think.
