looking for advice on what my partners daughter needs to avail of student fares.

she is 16 , almost 17 and doing her leaving cert.
she cannot get the student card http://www.studentcard.ie/ as she isnt at college.
    she is at school.

she is being charged for full price rail tickets as an adult and surely she must be able to avail of the €20 student prices?

ive been told her school can issue her with a student card but she says they dont do them.

    what is the norm here?

can a schoolchild get a student discount or is she to pay adult fares from her pocket money?

Since the school don't issue a student id (which is strange they don't) you have no choise but to pay full fare. Does she have a card for scanning for attendance which should also have D.O.B and a picture. If she does then it should be accepted.

no she just goes to a school , i presume they have an old fashioned register system.
    present sir type of thing.
ill ask her again and maybe phone the school , is it the norm for schools to issue student ID?

Student Card is only for second level

What she needs is a Student Travel Card http://www.studenttravelcard.ie/index.aspx - it needs photos + the school stamp.

Until then, she needs to pay adult fares.

Don't use the leap function on the student travel card or she'll be charged adult rates. She'll need to use it as an id to buy a Dublin bus rambler / multi journey type ticket.

    thanks again.
i think the http://www.studenttravelcard.ie/index.aspx is the one , gets the €20 euro fares for the train.
she wants to visit universities and colleges this year so saves a fortune.
just dont understand why its so ambiguous to get a student card when a child is 16 and in school.

Irish rail were the only ones that provided a thorough service in that regards with their smart cards.

Very much a big short coming with leap, but its also a victim of how nta tendered the student travel card as a seperate product.
