520d fuel warning light

I put 20 quids worth of diesel in my 520d last night, and drove around for a while to get used to it. At exactly 165km range to empty, there was a musical tone and the little exclamation mark came up on the dash beside the range, telling me I'm 'running low on fuel'. This is about 100 miles from empty. The dealer said this is about normal, but I'm not seeing anything online about it. I know it depends on driving style and all that, but is 100 miles not hopelessly early?

It will beep again at 50 miles range left

Also get used to it, after a while you will be praying that it's just the fuel warning when you hear that bing as it's the same sound that rings when there's any sort of problem with the car

My C4 warning light comes up with 125km to go

The warning itself is triggered based on the number of litres remaining, but the range number under it is based on the average consumption. Cause the 520d is so efficient that's why it's on so early.

My e90 petrol will trigger the warming with in around 55-70 miles to go, depending on what sort of driving I've been doing.

I'm guessing the warning is based on litres. It looks like there is the same volume of fuel in your car and my car, just yours is way more efficient :-(

The wife is always giving out about the same thing in her 520d. I guess its at a certain level in the tank when it comes on. Mine comes on at 95-100km in the 535d which says a bit about my driving style and the difference in fuel economy.

My car has no warning tone/light, it just swerves in and eats a petrol pump and off we go.

Better than hopelessly late - you don't want to be a foolish virgin! :)

The first low fuel warning is level based which comes on and goes off again after a few secs, the second warning you get is when the calculated range is less than 31 miles, the warning doesn't go off and RANGE xxmiles is displayed in idrive until you refuel!

    +1

Before mine was stolen that fcuking "bing" was a pain in the hole.

    Bing - headlight bulb

Bing - seatbelt not on (shopping on passenger seat)

    Bing - low on fuel

Bing - flat tyre (9 times out of ten the wheel wasn't even flat or soft)

Bing - tail light bulb gone

    Bing - indicator bulb gone

Bing - side light bulb gone

Bing - car is gone (stolen) - good fcuking riddance!!

    That's your actual problem...

And to the lad with the incorrect tyre warnings, it sounds like you have not calibrated your tyre monitor

It must have come from the factory like that - it used to beep every bloody week with a warning of a flat tyre - completely useless option.

My Alfa just stops even when the gauge and computer tell me I've 50 odd miles left.

Even better, sometimes when I turn the key, the fuel gauge will shoot up to full no matter what amount of petrol I have in the tank, then will take about 30 mins to slowly move down to the correct level.

Makes long drives between stations a fun gambling game.

(Oh and in before Alphas are rubbish, this is the only fault on the car I haven't caused myself ;))
