Thinking of buying a 01 Focus, the mileage on the car is high 188,000 (nearly) but test drove and it's driving better than some Golfs I test drove with lower mileage, could I get another year or two out of it?

    Potentially.

More detail would help, is it petrol or diesel? Has it been looked after? What is your annual mileage? etc etc etc etc.

Mileage doesnt bother me, drove a golf tdi with over 570,000km and it ran like a clock just as long as it was looked after

I bought a '00 Focus a few weeks back with 150,000 on the clock, it really does not feel like a 12 year old car with those kind of miles. Mine's a 1.8 TD which may (or may not) take better to these higher miles than a 1.4 petrol. I see no reason why that mileage would cause alarm bells, it's a bit higher than average but not galactic. It's approaching timing belt change territory, that's something to factor in to your decision. The clutch isn't far off slipping in mine, again something you might want to look in to with those miles.

You'll find it's a better drive than similar Golfs, better value and far more respectable in my opinion. Just do yourself a favour and avoid the 1.4 petrol :pac:

I'm curious: what do you mean when you say it's 'more respectable'?

If it is a diesel then I would say yes it should be fine but most of the 1.4 petrols would be on their last legs at that mileage.
