Is it a HD TV? I could just be the display. Press the power button to turn it on and hold your finger on the power button for about 6 seconds. That corrects it if it is a display issue

Try to hold the power button longer (just to hear the second beep).
It will then reset your video output settings. Then you will see if it's it, or maybie the hdmi cabble is broken...

Does the TV support HDMI ? you might be trying to Display 1920 x 1080 on a TV that doesn't support it, when its plugged into your brothers TV change the settings, ( the reset should have fixed it) but try do it manual, *Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > HDMI > Custom, Untick All except 576P, Press Right to move to the next page, X (enter) > Finish, after that replug it into your own TV.

If your TV does Support HD then your brother must have damaged it while pulling it out.
