Is there anyway to get the picture quality in the mini screen on the Sky guide to transfer to the main screen? Using a 32" lcd Samsung

Small screens are always more forgiving of poor picture quality. If a picture is poor a large screen will just make it look really bad.
Why is your picture quality poor? If it's being fed from the Sky box directly via scart or HDMI it should be pretty good to perfect.

It's ok but the small picture is just much nicer. It's going through hdmi with the cable provided with the box, would a new cable make a difference?

No,hdmi is all the same.It either works or it doesn't,a cheap one does as good a job as an overpriced cable. The mini tv just makes the picture look better by hiding the flaws.
