Protecting a marked parking space with a bollard - is it allowed?

    I live in an apartment. The parking spaces outside are yet to be marked out. The neighbour told me during the week that the management company is due in the next few weeks to mark out and number (using number of apartment) these spaces? Each apartment is entitled to one space.

    Once this is done, am I entitled to install a bollard to protect this space when I am not around?

    Its a free for all here at the moment, many house owners have more than one car and it can be a nightmare to get parking in the evenings.

    Do you own the space? No. You only have exclusive use of it. So, you can't install a bollard. Also, you would have to consider insurance aspects for any bollard.

    If you can't install a bollard, then what can you do to stop others parking in it then?

    Yes thinking that too. The neighbour had actually marked out his own spot and put a number in it as well, before the final tarmac was laid down. I'm guessing him doing this himself meant it carried no real standing. Of course since the final tarmac went down, he's been leaving a cone outside his front door to "unofficially" keep a spot.

    Once the spaces are marked and numbered by the management co and you leave a cone in the space, are others (other wanting to merely park their cars) entitled to move the cone?

    Contatc the management company and ask them what the story is. My complex has designated parking and there aren't even enough spaces for 1 per aprtment. Its never an issue as its kept on top of. Clamping, notes and fines to landlords.

    Anyone can move a cone. It serves no real effect.

    Enforcing parking is up to the management company, and not up to an individual. It should be parking by mutual respect. Failing that, many management companies bring in clamping to enforce parking. But this would have to be agreed at an AGM.

    Ask the management agent how they plan to enforce parking.
