Fuel Injector Blow By

    Hey all.

    Story goes about a year ago, I had a blown fuel injector in my Accord 2.2 i-CTDI. When I say blown, it actually came free from threads and shot up from the engine and cracked the plastic engine cover.

    I had the car taken to a Diesel Specialist near Cavan and they reconditioned the injector and said they had to retap the threads to get the injector to reseat.

    Now in the last few weeks if noticed a "chuffing" sound from the engine and when I open the bonnet it is clear the sound is from the same injector.

    The question is, can a mechanic reseat the injector again after it had to be rethreaded before or am I looking at some big replacement parts

    Cheers

    Injector itself wont be threaded.
    It will be clamped down, so im guessing its the clamp threads that were stripped before.
    You could try tightening the clamp but that could ultimately strip the rethreaded head or clamp...leaving you immobile.

    Best remove injector, inspect clamping mechanism and replace the seal washer under injector.
    If its leaking there will be a tarry residue built up around the top of the injector in no time.

    So best option is to go to the diesel specialist again and get them to work on it.

    Well just to bring my thread back to life. The injector just got a bit loose and damaged the cap nut. Mechanic replaced the cap nut and retightened in Oct.

    Low and behold... noticed this week that the blow by is back on the same injector. Is this just a case of sending it back again to be retightened or am in looking at more extensive work.

    The chances are that the injector seat has never been properly cleaned meaning that a seal will never last that long. Also if the last mechanic just tightened the injector clamp and didn't clean the injector recess and replace the copper seal then it was never a permanent repair.

    If there is constantly a problem with the same injector then that cylinder should be checked for any issues and the fuel system should be properly diagnosed to find any possible issues which may be causing the problems.

    Well it was with a diesel engineering company the last two times to get fixed and its still an issue. Is there somewhere else that can do this work for me. Im currently based in Cavan

    I can't remember whether it was Boards or another forum, but there were two specialists that were being recommended.

    The first was probably the one you went to in your own county, and the second was these guys;
