Unemployed with baby on the way

    Hello all

I have not claimed any benefits before so am confused as to what I am entitled to. I have tried reading the different posts here but have just become confused!

I am working as a teacher and have for the last 4 years (full time permanent contract). I gave that up to become a massage therapist (I know, I know but it is my dream). I am now in a situation where I am on a temporary contract for 6 weeks (ending in 3), looking to move in to a flat with my girlfriend who is due in November. She will be getting maternity leave but I don't know if she has a job to go back to as the company she works for is closing. We haven't been renting since July as have been staying at a friends but were renting before that and now looking to stay in Wicklow.

What I would like to know is what benefits (if any) will we be entitled to? I would rather not be claiming anything at all and working instead but I would like to know just in case that doesn't work out. Can I still claim and do the odd day of supply work that comes along?

    Thanks for any advice.
