I left my car in for a service. The garage quoted 150 Euro for oil change and fuel filter.

I got a call saying that the fuel filter is extra for Focus TDCI. They quoted 70 Euro.

    Does that sound right?

This is the first time I didn't go to a Ford Service Centre. The previous four service costs were under 200 Euro. It's got 100,000 km on it.

My fuel filter is €87.32 (or €83.72 some thing like that...I remember as it was the most expensive item on my service list) plus fitting and VAT. It is genuine Genuine Ford. I have my car serviced every 10000km and the fuel filter changed each time regardless of whether it’s a small or full service I’m getting. It’s my choice though…I have had bad experiences of our wonderful diesel in this country and consider changing both the oil filter and fuel filter regularly a defence against potential problems. That and the Ford 1.6 engine is a divil for Engine / Turbo problems all on it’s own.

Thanks for that. I feel bad after reading it though. I think I've been neglecting my car!

On that site yes! Was the easiest example to throw up, they are €30 - €40 on micksgarage as well & I'm sure a similar price at local motor factors

A Mann fuel filter for a 1.6tdci Focus retails at €39 ex VAT for the plastic type or €58 ex VAT for the metal top type. After that it depends on how good you are at negotiating for "trade" discount.

I have a brand new fuel filter for a focus sitting in my house, don't need it. Not sure what cars it suits exactly but the FINIS code on it is 1374029. Think I paid about €55 for it at the time, but that was with a bit of discount.

Edit: just checked the invoice. It was actually €45 I paid for it.

Believe it or not that sounds correct!! Is it 70euro including VAT?

Beware of the misterauto link, the filter you need is a metal type, not plastic.

Yeah, whatever that is, I have one! :D

Those cars use a canister fuel filter, apparently. So if anyone is looking for one drop me a PM, I do good price! :P

I haven't seen the bill yet but I'm pretty sure it was 70 Euro including VAT. I'm not sure how much the labour charge was for that.
