Hi all, I'm sure this question has been asked & answered many times here before but I've skimmed through as many threads as possible looking for the answer but to no avail.I would like to know if you really , really need to have a phone line attached to use sky multi room .
I have searched the web and have found equal numbers of "yes you do " & "no you don't". The yes say it's about sky checking the box is still at the address its suppose to be and the no's say " ahh sure don't worry about it ".
I use my house phone very rarely ( in fact only to ring my mobile when its down the back of the sofa!!) so I plan on getting it disconnected, but don't want to pay reconnection fees if sky contact me in a month or two telling me I need it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ...

I havent got my second box connected to a phone line. Been that way for a few years, no problems. The only feature you really lose out on is Sky Box Office.

    Well yes and no.

Worst case you would end up paying TWO or more full subscriptions. Officially yes you must have a phone line connected to both boxes or pay.

If you just take a chance make sure to check your bill every month. There have been cases where people's bill has suddenly gone up due to them not being connected to a phone line. There is also comments on this happening more likely if you ring them up and ask them to add or remove services. At this point they pull up your information and your account may be flagged as not being connected to a phone line. Anyone getting away with it is taking a chance, if you check your bill every month and cancel multiroom if the bill suddently rises then the risk is less. They have sent out letters in the past asking you to check your line is connected but I would not assume they will.

You should also consider a Sky eye for the 2nd TV as this would save you 15 euro a month and give you access to all recordings from the main box. A Sky eye combined with a Saorview TV, a TV aerial and an old Sky box is quite versatile for zero per month extra.

This information may be out of date, if so apologies.

But at one time, you only needed a phone line attached to each box if you were subscribed to premium channels i.e. Sports and\or Movies.

I remember from my old phone bills that the boxes stopped their monthly calls when I cancelled premium channels. I disconnected the phone line, and never had any bother.

You can ring them to book box office stuff or do it through MySky.

You're one of the lucky few not to be pulled up by them for having no phoneline connected.

Sorry , just to clarify I plan on getting the landline phone disconnected and keeping both sky boxes.

Hmmm I suppose I could disconnect the phone lines from the boxes and keep an eye out for either a bill increase or letter from sky asking me to check the phone connection to the sky box, and see what happens if all goes well in a few months I can then cancel the landline phone.
If anyone can see a flaw in my logic please feel free to shoot me down

The longer you go without having them connected the less chance you will continue to get away with it. I would force the boxes to do a dial test, then cancel the line, rather than having a line with it not connected.

At least if they contact you 4 months after disconnection, you can reconnect the landline or drop multiroom. If however you had the boxes disconnected for 3 months and have just cancelled the landline, then you would need to reconnect the landline straight away, if you get my drift. So cost wise it would probably be better to cancel line rather than disconnecting boxes while paying for the line.
