Just saw a few of these on the apple online store, 429, 50 quid cheaper than a new one and I'm sure it will be of interest to someone...

Have a look at the following site as it lists all current refurbs across the apple store - http://www.refurb.me/ir/

The quality of apple refurbs is basically like a new one so I don't see the need in paying apple an extra 50 euro...

Absolutely, Apple refurbs are the way to go, I've only ever had one to return and when I called them about it they sent me out a new one as a replacement.

Go with new is my advice. Bad experiences with refurbished Apple products...

I think the refurb prices are scandalous.

Bit saucy, but then when you consider that if a box is opened and the device is never used, it also has to be listed as refurbished...

You have no way of knowing that to be the case. Aren't they returns from dissatisfied customers that they have fixed up?

What I meant was that refurbs include those devices that are opened but unused. And also covers the ones that are repaired by apple. I mean, when you send an item back to be fixed, they will sometimes just send you a refurbed one and then fix yours and give that to someone else.

It's been fixed by Apple themselves, so no biggy.

The capacity prices are scandalous also. €100 to go from 16GB to 32GB. The cost to Apple is about €10.

I agree. Have you ever noticed how much people ask for second hand mobiles ? Quite often a new one is cheaper including free credit and full warranty. Those "cash for gold " type places ask outrageous prices for ten year old models.
