I don't want to say something and get into trouble but i had heard that quite a few regulations were not followed in that instance. But yes you are right security at home is extremely important. I don't understand the mentality alot of people have with firearms over here they spend E2000 on a shotgun or rifle or even 500 and then they go and buy the cheapest safe going which a tin opener would'nt be hard pushed opening it.

If someone wants your guns bad enough they will get them, all you can do is your best to make it difficult enough to either put them off or so it takes them long enough to get them until they are disturbed. That case here in Wicklow I've heard a lot of different things about and I'm not going to start spreading rumors on here. In my home I have a 12 gun safe actually built into the wall. It holds all of my guns and is handy for sticking the laptop in or a few other bits. The bolts from my rifles and fore-ends from the shotguns are stored along with the ammo in a smaller safe at the opposite end of the house. That way they would have to break into both safes to get at least 1 whole gun + ammo which would take an awful lot of effort and time.

It doesnt matter what security you have, there is technology there to break it.

The average thief or opportunist will probably not break your security arrangements but an organized, professional criminal group wont just arrive to commit a crime without seriously planning and knowing they will be able to break the security measures in place.

We all do our best to keep things safe and personally, I follow things to the letter of the law and then more.

But, for RFD's if they are targeted by a criminal group, they will be targeted because the group already have knowledge of their security arrangements and are confident that they can get through them.
