Rubber Lens Hood Question

20-09-2012 10:29pm#1got this shallow rubber lens hood with a video camera i bought a long while back. camera came witha sort of matte box so i never had any use for the rubber one. found it in a press today and i really cant see any functional use to it at all. it seems far too shallow to block any light...what is the point of these???
